Tour Beijing to Shanghai with Yangtze River Cruise

We were on a Wendy Wu escorted tour of China which is reviewed in the China Intro Page. The tour started in Beijing, where there were three nights on the tour including the Great Wall. From Beijing we flew to Xian where we stayed for two nights and saw the Terracotta Warriors. From Xian we flew to Wuhan where we were taken by motor coach to the Yangtze River at Yichang. There we boarded the Victoria Katarina river cruise ship and stayed for four nights. Both the ship and amazing crew shows are reviewed here. For a description of the daily shore excursions see the Yangtze River Excursions. We left the cruise ship in Chongqing. From there we flew to Guilin where we spent one night. From Guilin we took a river cruise boat on the Li River to Yangshuo where we stayed two nights in the presence of gorgeous scenery. The tour ended with two nights in Shanghai. Contact Us for more information.

We had seen the sights in Xian and were ready for the river cruise on the Yangtze River. After breakfast at the hotel we went to the Xian airport for our second internal flight in China. We flew to Wuhan. The flight time was about an hour and 15 minutes. Then we got on a motor coach for a nearly five hour trip to the Yangtze River. We had lunch when we got on the motor coach. Box lunches had been prepared by our hotel in Xian. On the drive through the countryside we saw rice paddies and a lot of green vegetation. Before going to the ship we stopped at a nice restaurant in Yichang for dinner. After that we were taken to the docks where we were greeted by a small band, pictured at the top of this page. The band played as we boarded the Victoria Katarina vessel, seen above. We met the cruise director and some of the crew members before checking into our room. Walking around the ship we were in lavish surroundings. We spent four nights on the Victoria Katarina ship on the Yangtze River Cruise portion of our tour of China. We were able to get WiFi in our room for an extra but reasonable charge.

Lounge and Bar

Lounge on the Victoria Katarina Cruise Ship.

The lounge on the ship was a popular place to relax, where lectures were held, and where performances by the crew took place. It is shown in the picture above. In the back of this picture the bar can be seen as well as in the picture below.

The place to go to see sights on shore along the Yangtze River or just to relax out-of-doors was the top deck. There is always a chance of a photo opportunity.

Dining

The ship had a large main dining room, shown above, and a smaller VIP dining room. Both dining rooms are very nice. We had our meals in the VIP dining room.

Food was served buffet style with lots of choices available in our dining room as seen above. The food was very good.

Our tour group consisted of fifteen members with eleven from England, a couple from Australia, and two of us from the United States. All of us are seated in two tables seen in the pictures above and below.

Our last dinner on the ship was the Captain's farewell banquet. In the picture above the Captain is giving his farewell talk of good wishes.

Following dinner on our second night on the ship we were treated to an amazing show by the ship crew. It was a Chinese Dynasty Show in which Chinese costumes and customs were displayed through dance. Note their reflections on the floor.

The five pictures presented here display the beauty of the show. But they cannot begin to capture the quality of the dance routines.

Between the colorful costumes and high quality choreography you were in awe of the performance.

The ladies and men work on the ship, mostly in housekeeping. But they were polished dancers doing ballet. They have certainly set a high standard for ship crew shows.

In addition, there was a magician and a soprano saxophone player. As in the night before, the quality of the performers was outstanding.
